Investment Focus

Large Principal Investments

Companies: EBITDA typically between $5 million and $25 million

Sectors: Franchise and multi-unit franchisees (e.g., restaurant, retail, and service) and hospitality, including both traditional and non-traditional units

Regions: Focus on North American-based companies and opportunistically with companies that have international expansion opportunities

Investment Structures: Control or minority equity investments

Investment Types: Growth/Acquisition Capital; Recapitalizations; Family-Owned Business Transfers; Management/Corporate Buyouts; Corporate Divestitures

Boutique Investments

Companies: EBITDA under $5 million with proprietary existing relationships with Corlex partners or strategic operating partners

Industry Leaders: Brands/chefs who are recognized leaders in their sector, through either industry recognition (Michelin/James Beard) and/or popularity (cable network, Zagat)

Proven Track Record: Existing units must be profitable, with little to no debt and a solid national/international reputation

Minimal Competition: Scalable brands in a noncrowded field with the potential to be an industry leader

Initial Consultative Work: Brand or chef must have sufficient capital to retain Corlex for a minimum of 9 months to undertake a financial and operational diagnostic. This includes the creation of the new brand configuration, retention of best in class design vendors, marketing, sales and menu creation. The owner must also be willing to first open company owned units representing the new design/offering before franchising the brand.

Principal Investment: If the consultative phase is positive, and we believe the brand can franchise at the pace required, Corlex will make a principal investment in the brand
